The Kingdom of the Eagle

In this book, Brutus Östling has chosen to visit the realm of the eagles, especially the Sea or White-tailed Eagle and the Golden Eagle, but we also get to meet other birds such as gulls, forest grouse etc — birds that are at home in the same biotope as these magnificent birds of prey. Brutus Östling’s unmistakable and unique photos are interspersed with reflections around the eagle in nature, and in our consciousness through history. Staffan Söderblom, well known for his lyrical descriptions of nature, has written the texts — sometimes these are a comment on the pictures, sometimes they widen the perspective and deepen the interpretation.

Penguins

Penguins is the rare book that combines a fabulous visual study of these creatures with up-to-date information on all seventeen species, from the largest (Emperor Penguin) to the tiniest (the aptly named Little Penguin). Through the text and pictures, the reader will learn all about life in their colonies, and how they live on land and sea, raise and feed their chicks, and manage their long, annual migrations.

Brutus Östling's amazing photography completely captures the nature of these creatures. Looking at the images makes one feel as if the birds were posing for the camera; Östling has a knack for capturing them in the most natural of settings, going about their daily activities, at work or at play.

Life on the Wing / Between the Wingtips

Why do people have such an affinity for birds? Is it their ability to break free from gravity and soar through the air? Perhaps it is their colorful plumage, which varies from season to season? Or their nesting and brooding habits?

Organized by theme, and with elegant text by nature writer Magnus Ullman, 140 common and rare species are seen in their habitats. Whether shown flying or feeding, nesting or displaying their colors, each of them clearly is a distinct individual. The text offers musings on, and descriptions of, the most distinctive features or behaviors. For example, it explains why storks’ beaks are slightly curved, and how this attribute helps their foraging.

Winner of the 2006 Pandabook award as Sweden’s finest nature book, Between the Wingtips / Life on the Wing will delight and amaze anyone with an interest in these most amazing creatures
